Cleopatra, the famous Egyptian ruler of ancient times, is well known. She was an educated woman, who spoke several languages, had a good grasp of geography and politics, and did many other things. It was unusual to find women who were both beautiful and intelligent in the period. She was therefore even more remarkable.
Cleopatra VII Philopator lived in Alexandria, Egypt from 69 BC to 30 BC. She was Egypt’s last active Ptolemaic King and descendant of Ptolemy I Soter. Alexander the Great was her companion. Her name is “the goddess Cleopatra the beloved of her father”. Cleopatra’s father, Ptolemy XII Auletes ruled Egypt for 51 BC. She was the third of his daughters. She was educated and spoke nine languages. She learned politics from her father. Cleopatra’s consort was always a male relative, regardless of age, after her father died. Cleopatra VII co-ruled ancient Egypt with Ptolemy for almost 30 years. She was the last member of the Macedonian ruling dynasty that Ptolemy established. Ptolemy was Alexander the Great’s General during the conquest in Egypt 332 BC. Cleopatra was 15 years old when she married Ptolemy. They didn’t get on, but Cleopatra had only one goal: to build a world empire. The way she achieved her goals was either for personal reasons or to pursue power. She was said to have done what she thought necessary to save Alexandria. Cleopatra omitted his name on official documents. She was breaking with Ptolemaic traditions that women rulers were subordinate to men rulers. Ptolemy aimed to control Ancient Egypt completely and remove Cleopatra from the throne. She was exiled in Syria and defeated her brother with Julius Caesar’s help. She then moved back to Rome. Caesarion is the name of her baby, which she survived as Pharaoh. Cleopatra went back to Egypt in 44 BC after Caesar died. Caesar never acknowledged this boy as his offspring. Historic debates whether Caesar was the father of this child. She had two twins Alexander Helios Cleopatra Selene with Marc Antony and a third son Ptolemy Philadelphus. Cleopatra had twins with Caesar’s ally Anthony. She then supported Anthony in the war against Octavian Caesars son by throwing her entire military force behind him. Octavian fought with his allies to defeat Anthony and Cleopatra during the Battle of Actium. Anthony later died. Cleopatra wished for Egypt to be independent from Rome, A & E Networks Television. She developed Egypt’s economy and established trade with other Arab countries. She was well-liked by the Egyptians because she respected the Egyptian culture. Her story has a lot of significance and is largely powerful. Cleopatra had a witty mind, which confirms what I said earlier.
Cleopatra was the first powerful female ruler in Ancient Egypt. Women had few rights, if any. She was a great female leader, and I have many reasons to believe so. Cleopatra did more than change the world by being beautiful. She learned Egyptian so she could better relate and communicate with the people that she ruled. No male ruler of the time had done this. It is hard to rule a country alongside your younger sister, as any teenager will tell you. Cleopatra set out to establish her own kingdom, separating herself from Ptolemy XIII. Cleopatra, who was married to Ptolemy VIII, made it clear she wouldn’t share. What a powerful woman she was at that age, taking charge and responsibility of all things. Cleopatra popularized make-up and fashion trends. Cleopatra was a fashion icon in Rome even though the government and legislators of Rome hated her. Cleopatra’s look was copied by women all over. It lasted a long time. Cleopatra was so widely popularized that modern archaeologists mistakenly identified statuettes found in remnants of ancient cities as the Queen. Cleopatra was an important woman in ancient Egypt, but she wasn’t just a queen. Her destiny, in the ancient world, was closely tied to her relationships with men… so she can’t be considered a proto-feminist. She was one of richest women on the planet. She was known as a woman with a striking personality and intelligence, who formed alliances to two of the world’s most powerful men. Cleopatra shows us how to be equal in the political world. The beauty and fashion of female politicians is criticized. Men receive media attention when involved in scandals, but their female counterparts are criticized for their sexual and marital past. Cleopatra had it all. She was a powerful ruler during Ancient Egypt. Cleopatra used all her resources to help Ancient Egypt during her reign. She was intelligently equal to her male friends and Elizabeth’s wealth.
We will end by discussing how Cleopatra is still influential today. And why we are so interested in her. Cleopatra, like today’s stars, carefully managed her public image. As she travelled to Tarsus in a barge, to meet Mark Antony, Cleopatra made quite a spectacle. She dressed up as Egyptian goddess Isis while handsome boys fanning and swaying her. She was a fan of pageantry and a star such as Lady Gaga could appreciate it. Cleopatra was not a statue or a painting but a Hollywood movie.
